Monroe, WA – On July 15, 2023, Veterans of Foreign Wars District 1 supported the Randy Couture Xtreme Couture GI Foundation (XCGIF) Poker Run in Snohomish County. Beginning in Everett, WA, at the Everett Veteran’s Center and ending at the Evergreen State Fairgrounds in Monroe, MMA legend Randy Couture brought together motorcycle enthusiasts in support of veterans. A veteran himself, Randy Couture stopped by the VFW District 1 booth in Monroe and simply asked, “How’s it going?” Randy signed autographs and took photos with members of District 1. VFW Post 7511 member Mike Bowling noted, when we asked to take a photo with Randy, “he extended his arms pulled us all in as if we were all family.”
In addition to staffing the two separate VFW District 1 booths, members and Auxiliary members participated in the ride, acted as “Road Captain,” MC’d the event, conducted the duties of the Color Guard, and stepped in as auctioneer helping raise even more money for the XCGIF, which in turn supports veterans.
The following District 1 Posts and Auxiliary supported the event: VFW Post 921, VFW Post 1040, VFW Post 7511, VFW Post 7511 Auxiliary, VFW Post 8870, and VFW Post 9417
