Honoring the Legacy of Jim Traner: A Life of Service and Passion

The passing of Jim Traner on July 22nd marked the end of a life dedicated to service, family, and pursuing one’s passions. Born on June 6th, 1947, Jim was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, leaving an indelible mark on our community.

Growing up amid adventures at the family cabin near Cliffdell, Jim’s love for nature was nurtured early on. Following his service with the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment in Vietnam, he settled in Seattle, marrying Francy Lesenyie (1946-1997) and raising two daughters, Carrie and Amy. In 1998, he married Terry Savaglio, and with her two boys, Jason (wife Diane) and Ethan (partner Alli), the family grew. They just celebrated their 25th anniversary in June.

Jim’s zest for life encompassed fishing, flying, and the outdoors, which he eagerly shared with his family. His professional journey led to co-founding Traner Smith & Co, and his dedication extended to coaching softball, contributing to the Mukilteo Little League, and actively participating in the Edmonds Rotary.

Notably, Jim’s commitment to fellow veterans shone through his involvement with VFW Post 8870, where he spent over two decades supporting veterans and contributing to the Veteran’s Plaza in Edmonds.

Jim’s passing, while engaged in his beloved pastime of reeling in a king salmon, symbolized his adventurous spirit. His memory lives on through his contributions to the community, the plaques adorning the Veteran’s Plaza, and the inspiration of his selfless dedication.

A Celebration of Life will be held on August 20th at the Edmonds Waterfront Center, followed by a military service at Tahoma National Cemetery on August 29th. As we reflect on Jim Traner’s impactful life, let us honor his legacy of service, unwavering commitment, and the enduring impression he leaves behind.
